•LEGISLATION IN BRITAIN. By Telegraph.—Press Assn.—Copyright Received June 13, 9.15 p.m. London, June 13. In the House of Commons, in committee on the Finance Bill, an amendment moved by Mr. J. P. Hay (Labour) to exempt dried fruits from the additional customs duties imposed under the Bill, was defeated by 219 votes to Ila. Sir W. Joynson-Hicks said he could not abandon the duty, which yielded £BOO,OOO a year and involved a charge of only sixpence a year for each family An the sour try.
