LADIES’ TOURNAMENT. FINAL’. NEW PLYMOUTH TEAM WINS# jj By two goals to one the New Plymouth Technical College Old Girls team defeated the Stratford Technical School team at King Edward Park, Hawera, yesterday, In the final game of the ladies’ annual June 3 hockey tournament. The game was a hard one throughout, both teams playing excellent hockey, but in the latter stages the advantage was with New Plymouth. At half-time the score was one all, but New Plymouth took the lead a quarter of an hour from the end of the game, Stratford being unable to equalise. For the winners Miss D. Sturmey, who played a splendid game on the left wing, scored both goals, Stratford’s score being registered by Miss T. Curteis. Messrs. D. Burgess and F. Sage controlled the game.

At the conclusion of play, the Mayor of Hawera (Mr. L. A. Bone) presented the cup to Miss H. Andrews, captain of the winning team, Mr. J. W. Clotworthy returning thanks. The cup. which was presented for competition in 1920 by Mr. S. J. Cattran, of Hawera, was won three times in succession by the Hinemoa Club, Hawera, but they hahded it back for further competition, with the proviso that it cannot be won outright in the future.
