EMPIRE PREMIERS.
CONFERENCE PROPOSALS. ECONOMIC QUESTIONS. COMBINING MEETINGS. By Telegraph.—Press Assn.—CopyrightLondon, March 8. The Colonial Office states that the delaj in holding the Imperial Economy Conference is entirely due to circumstances beyond the control of either the Dominions or Britain, notably the elections in Australia and New Zealand, the disturbed political conditions in Canada and South Africa and the impending general election in Newfoundland. This explanation is necessary because newspaper cables from Australia indicate that Australia is impatient over the delays. Mr. Bonar Law, within a fortnight after the British elections, communicated with the Dominions requesting their views upon the proposal to hold an Economic Conference in April, preceding the Imperial Conference in June. The Dominipn’s replies revealed the impossibility of carrying out this programme, which is now changed to the period between September and November, when it is proposed to hold both conferences concurrently. It is suggested that the economic experts meet simultaneously with the Premiers, thereby shortening the proceedings.
