THE FINAL TEST

ENGLAND’S EASY WIN. AN INNINGS AND 20 RUNS, CONCLUDING DAY'S PLAY. By Telegraph.—Press Association. Wellington, Last Night. Conditions were again ideal for the final da-y of the third test match between New Zealand and England, but the remainder of the New Zealand batsmen did not offer much resistance and the Englishmen won by an innings and 20 runs after an hours play. When stumps were drawn on Saturday, New Zealand had five wickets down for 178, with Blunt (65) and Garrard (5) unbeaten. The partnership did not remain* long after play resumed. as the batsmen were not at home with Gibson and Freeman. Blunt added only three more to his score before he placed one into Freeman’s hands in slips off Gibson.—lB2—6—6B. McGirr joined Garrard . and there se< med to be hope of a stand, when the Auckland man fell to Gibson after adding 7 to the score, with McGirr 4. — 197—7—12.* Brice was next man, but he lost McGirr without any further increase in the score, the latter sending one into Chapman’s hands at cover.—l47—B—B. Cate filled the gap. After stonewalling for about three overs, in which he scored a lucky brace to leg, he was given out l.b.w. to Gibson, who had bowled S maidens in succession.— 200—9—2. Mcßeath was the last man. Brice greeted his arrival with a hefty lift of Freeman for four, but after the pair had added 15, more by good luck than !To.;d management. Brice was caught by Wilson off Gibson, and thg innings closed.—-215—Iff—10. Mcßeath, the not out man, had 4 to his crelit. Thus the Englishmen won by an innings and 20 runs. Details:— ENGLAND.
