BOWLING.

NEW’ PLYMOUTH FIRE BRIGADE’S GREEN

The New Plymouth Fire Brigade some months ago had the sanction of the Fire Board to lay down a bowling green on the section of land adjoining the custodian’s residence in Courtenay Street. The brigadesmen displayed a great deal of enthusiasm in the matter, and as the result of working bees the ground was thoroughly levelled. Mr. F. Carrington then came to their assistance and put in the true level pegs, the final work of the sowing of the seed being entrusted to Mr. A. Aldridge, of Vogelown. An excellent take was obtained, and with such favorable weather for ' growth the green is looking splendid and will have a thick sward of grass. It is also very clean so far as weeds are concerned, and next week it has been arranged that Mr. Aldridge will top-dress it. The green comprises four rinks, and the brigadesmen, among whom there are quite a number of keen bowlers, j are looking many pleasant hours , of recreation here.
