Orders for papers may also be left with him. GENERAL ITEMS. February 3. The rainfall in Stratford during January totalled 15.18 in. The heaviest falls recorded were 20th (3.06 in) and 21st (3.94 in). Rain fell on 16 days. Mr. R. Masters, M.P. for Stratford, left by this morning mail ttain for Wellington, in view of the Liberal-La-bor Party meeting on Monday, and the opening of Parliament on Wednesday next. Mr. G. A. Carter, chief clerk in Mr. W. Power’s office at Stratford, has sue cessfully passed bis professional accountancy examination recently’ conducted to the University, and was the only candidate in Taranaki who suc?essfulljpassed in book-keeping. A presentation of a writing case was made to Miss Clara Millar af Presbyterian Choir practice last night. For some time Miss Millar acted as organist to the choir and she is shortly leaving to enter the Wellington Teachers’ College. On the wrecked ketch Edna there wan a consignment of 500 cases of explosives for Masters, Ltd,, the Taranaki agents for Nobles, Ltd. Half of the consignment was for New Plymouth and half for Stratford. The goods were covered by insurance. For disorderly conduct and drunkenness in Broadway on Thursday afternoon, a Sorbian appeared at the Magistrate’s Court on Friday before Mr. C. D. Sole, J.P., and pleaded ‘‘not guilty” to the charge. Constable Gill, in giving evidence, stated that defendr ant was walking up Broadway waving a stick, spitting at people, and using bad language, and Was the worse for drink. Sergeant Dale, in prosecuting, said that when defendant “had a few drops,” he became very excited, and had an impression when under the influence of liquor that people were calling him a German. When sober he was a hardworking man. The Bench, in imposing a fine of £2, said that if people could spend money in drink they could also pay fines. WIRELESS! WIRELESS!! WIRELESS!!!
