PICNIC AND SPORTS.

GATHERING AT HUATOKI DOMAIN. Fine weather and shady trees by a running stream made ideal conditions for the annual picnic in the Huatoki Domain on Saturday, and with the day crowded with a variety of amusements five hundred people, young and old, thoroughly enjoyed themselves. Afternoon tea was obtainable on the grounds, and guessing competitions and the disciples of “Aunt Sally” were numerous. In the afternoon swimming races and flat races were keenly contested, while a euchre party was held in the Frankley Hal! in the evening. An efficient committee, comprising Messrs. G. Browne (chairman). IV. Freethy, G, Dobson, N. Allen, W. Bendall and G. J. Lawrence ((Secretary), made excellent arrangements for the outing. The results of the sports are:—' SWIMMING. Ballantyne. Long Plunge.—Lawrence FLAT RACES. Married Ladies’ Race. —Mrs. Tippins. Boys (12 and under). —Therklson. Boys (under 15).—Aro 1, Lawrence 2. Single Ladies’ Race.—Miss M. Berridp’e. Chain Stepping.—Mr. McCurdy. COMPETITIONS. Weight of Lamb.—Mrs. F. Newell and Mrs. N. Allen equal. Beans in Bottle.—Mr. G. Brown. During the afternoon the Girl Guides gave an interesting exhibition of first aid work and flag signalling.
