THE BAND CONTEST.
MEETING OF THE EXECUTIVE. The fortnightly meeting of the New Plymouth band contest executive was held last night. Mr. H. S. Brookman presided, and others present were: Messrs. H. R. Cattley, A. Humphries, E. Sole, and J. R. Hill. On the motion of Mr. A. Humphries, it was decided that it should be optional with each band how many verses were to be played in the hymn test, and that the matter of phrasing be left to the judge. Regarding the nomination of judges, it was decided that the North Island Brass Bands’ Association be informed that the committe had no further recommendations to make, and that the matter be left entirely in the hands of the association. An application was received from Mr. F. W. G. McLeod for the position of second judge. It was decided that Mr. McLeod be. informed that the committee cannot yet say whether a second judge would be required, but in the event of an appointment being made Mr. McLeod’s application would receive consideration. The account of Messrs. Wright and Round, of £«54 Is lid, for music scores, plus exchange, was passed for payment. It was also decided that forma! application be made to the New Plymouth Sports Ground Committee for the use of the grounds for the contest. It was resolved that Mr. A. Humphries consult with Mi. A. Milne with reference to lighting the grounds for the contest, and that Mr. Milne’s name be added to the grounds committee. Mr. J. McLeod was added to the advertising committee, and Mr. Frank Newall to the executive committee. It was resolved that Mr. and Mrs. P. Fredric be asked to accept the positions of official accompanists to soloists.
