The Secretary of the New Zealand Alliance (Rev. John Dawson) has received the following cable from Rev. R. S. B. Hammond:—“Summary results of election are as follows: Drys reelected 224, wets re-elected 79, dry new members 72, wet new mejnbers 54. The Senate Congress is still emphatically dry. Ohio majority against beer, 187.000. California passed bone-dry law 60,000 majority. Illinois vote mock referendum only as Prohibitionists were urged not to participate since the verdict would be incapable of changing present conditions. Have not yet seen a drunk. Prohibition an acknowledged factor in increased economic and industrial prosperity.” (Published by arrangement by the Taranaki Provincial Prohibition Council.)
