THE SAVAGE CLUB.
PUBLIC KORERO IN EMPIRE THEATRE, Considerable interest has been aroused by the announcement that the New Plymouth Savage Club has decided to make a public display of the ceremonies and general procedure attaching to their koreros. The Savages are a world-wide institution, and there are many wierd stories afloat of the revels which take place beneath the shadow of the gruesome skull and crossbones. Members of the club have been curiously- reticent when questioned on the subject, and now comes the startling announcement that we are to be allowed to view one of their gatherings. Just why the club committee have decided on this unprecedented unveiling to the profane gaze of the multitude, of the sacred mysteries of their order, passes our understanding. Some say that pressure has been -brought to bear by curious wives whose Savage spouses have, on the occasions of the koreros, stayed out beyond the limits prescribed for respectable married men: while others venture the opinion that the hapu has discovered so much genuine artistic talent in its ranks that it feels called upon to declare it to the world at large. Be that as it may, there is no doubt that the promised entertainment with its songs, dances and orchestral gymnastics, its installation ceremonies and weird setting, will prove an excellent excuse for a night out. The korero will be staged in the Empire Theatre next Monday evening, November 27. The box plans are now open at Collier’s.
