Double time was agreed on for Anzac Day- The union did not press its claim for extended holidays. MOTOR MECHANICS’ DISPUTE. Wellington, J uly 26. The motor mechanics’ dispute is before the Conciliation Council. The application is by the Amalgamated Engineering Union. It has been agree that anv agreement should be applicable to the whole Dominion. The claims of the Union depart from the existing award only to a slight degree; the exception is the hours, and a small increase in wages is sought. The union emphasised the importance oi apprentices and maintained it was time the assistants’ clause was abolished. lhe employers’ counter-claims are based on the present award with one or two minor alterations. It was stated that the union was prepared to agree to 44 hours in place of 40.
