COURTENAY STREET SCHOOL
GRANT FOR NEW BUILDING, A MODERN SCHOOL. A grant of approximately £7OOO has been made by the Government to the Taranaki Education Board for the erection of a new infants’ school to replace the present building in Courtenay StreetThe chairman of the board (Mr. P, J. White) stated last night that the total cost of the new school would be about £7OOO, so that the whole cost would fall on the department. Plans have been prepared for some time providing for a modern building in concrete to accommodate about 150 children and the work will be put in hand at once.
The plans of the new school provide for four class-rooms, one being 30ft by 24ft, another 24ft by 24ft, and two 26ft by 24ft. Between two of the rooms there will be a folding partition, to enable a spacious assembly room to be provided for lectures, etc- A special room will be set aside as a dental clinic, and there will alec be a teachers*, room and two cloak rooms. Hot water heating will be provided throughout the building. Constructed in concrete, with asbestos tiles on the roof, the new school will be an attractive building and a vast improvement on the. out-of-data structure now in use.
