REPARATIONS.
GERMANY CANNOT PAY, MORE TIME WANTED. FAILURE TO BORROW, By Telegraph.—Press Assn. —Copyright. Paris, Dec. 15. Germany advises the Reparations Commission that she is unable to pay the next two instalments and requests delay. Received Dec. 16, 10.40 p.m. Paris, Dec. 15. Herr Wirth, writing to the Reparations Commission, says: “The success of our attempt to pay the January and February instalments depends on the flotation of a loan, for which active collaboration with British financiers is essential. The Government opened negotiations to this end in England, but failed, and, consequently, even by ignoring the requirements of our own budgets, the Government cannot procure more than 150,000,000 to 250,000,000 gold marks cash. It is therefore obliged to ask for an extension of time. The Government realises that similar difficulties will arise in connection with subsequent payments.” The instalment due in January amounts to 500,000,000, and in February to about 250,000,000.
