SUPREME COURT.
AUCKLAND SESSIONS. By Telegraph—Press Association. Auckland, Nov. 14. The Supreme Court opened this morning, Judges Herdman and Stringer presiding, in two chambers. Mr. Justice Stringer, in his charge to the Grand Jury, said the list was an exceptionally long one, with no less than 31 charges. The preponderance flf crimes alleged was dishonesty, but a substantial number were sexual offences. • His Honor commented on the fact that in a case of theft of money from the Whangarei Borough Council that body had accepted restitution. Accused wepi subsequently to the Thames, and it Yas alleged that certain money of a patriotic- society had been misappropriated by him. Charges were then laid i» respect of these funds, also of the. theft of money of the Whangarei BoPbugh Council. It seemed to His Honor so- remarkable that a public body should have accepted restitution and allowed a man to resign and seek employment elsewhere, as though his character were ir- ' j reproachable.
