SCULLING.

HANAN DEFEATS WELLS. By Telegraph—Press Association. Blenheim, Oct. 29. The race for the sculling championship of Marlborough on the Wairau river was rowed to-uay In perfect weather conditions between J. P. Hanan and "Jumbo” Wells. The tide was at full when the rowers started off. Hanan immediatelj' took the lead, and was four lengths ahead at the quarter mile. Rowing with an easy swing, and seemingly not distressed, he drew away till ten lengths separated the boats. Wells made strenuous efforts to reduce the gap, but without avail Har.an passed the judge’s boat a good ten lengths to the good, Wells being all out. Time, 23min.
