TRANSVAAL v. AUSTRALIA. By Telegraph.—Press Assn.—Copyright. Capetown, Oct. 24. The cricket match, Australia v. Transvaal, was continued. Australia, in the first innings, made 273 (Macartney 36, Ryder 53, Hendry not out 57). Nupen took six wickets for 89 runs. Tiansvaal, in the second innings, made 162 (Frank 35, Lindsay 20, Cooper 23, Leronux 23). Gregory took three wickets for 41, s‘niJey four for 52. The weather was dull but fine. The Australians* batting was quiet, the chief feature of the innings being the fine bowling of Nupen, aged 19. The Transvaalers* defence generally was better than in the first innings. WELLINGTON ASSOCIATION. By Telegraph—Press Association. Wellington, Last Night. The Wellington Cricket Association to-nigiit declined to support the Otago Association in the latter’s advocacy that the refund of the difference between the actual costs ot’ the Australian cricketers’ tour last season and the amount guaranteed by the various associations should be made. Replying to a query of Canterbury, the meeting agreed to the broad principle of the Christchurch City and Suburban Association coming under the control of the major body. NORTH TARANAKI COMPETITION. THE FIXTURES. It is gratifying to note that an increased number of teams have this year entered for the competitions in North Taranaki, and a successful season should be held. No less than fifteen teams will play, and these have been classified in two grades. Tikorangi are unable to enter a team before Christmas, hut hope to do so later in the season. There will also be a Primary Schools competition. The season opens on Saturday next. In the event of there being a postponement on account of wet weather the dates as mentioned will be adhered to, and such postponed matches will he played at the end of the season. Three points will te awarded for a win outright; two points for a win on the first innings; and one point for a draw or a tie. The fixtures are as follow: A. GRADE. October 29.—New Plymouth v.
