COAL MINE AGREEMENTS.

CONFERENCE Al WESTPORT. By Telegraph—Press Association. Wellington, Oct. 25. Matters in connection with the framing of local agreements to govern conditions in the coal mining industry have been advanced another stage. Representatives of the miners’ unions and of the coal owners meet at Westport to-morrow to discuss the question of making an agreement covering the West Coast district.

When the proceedings on the Coast have been completed it ia likely that the next district conference will relate to mines in Otago.

The terms of the settlement of the recent dispute between the Miners’ Federation and the Coal Mine Owners’ Association provided that, if negotiations at a district conference were unsuccessful, the machinery of the Conciliation and Arbitration Act should be put into operation.
