CIVILIANS KIDNAPPED. * CONCERNED IN MeSWINEY CASE. Br Telenaph.—Press Assn —Copyrltft. Received Nov. 17, 10.20 p.m. London, Nov. 16. Armed civilians held up a train at Waterfall station, Ireland, and 1 covered the crew. They dragged several passengers from the carriages, forced them into motors, and vanished. A number of unarmed soldiers witnessed the affair helplessly. It is believed those kidnapped were concerned in the court-martial which condemned McSwiney.—Aus.-N.Z. Cable Assn.
A BASIS OF PEACE. ADOPTED BY IRISH LABOR. Received Nov. 18, 12.10 a.m. London, Nov. 16. The All Ireland Labor Conference at Dublin approved the British Labor Party's proposals for a settlement on a basis, firstly, the withdrawal of troops; secondly, the summoning of a Constituent Assembly elected on a basis of proportional representation by a free and secret vote; and thirdly, the drafting by the Assembly of the constitution, subject only to two conditions, namely, affording protection to minorities and preventing Ireland becoming a military and naval menace.—Reuter Service. SEQUEL TO McSWINEY'S DEATH. New York, Nov. 10. The Washington correspondent of the New York American reports that Mrs. McSwiney will sail for the LTnited States on the 24th inst to give evidence before a committee of one hundred, composed of Irish Americans and others who are investigating conditions in Ireland. THE HOME RULE BILL. MOTION FOR ITS REJECTION. London, Nov. 16. In the House of Lords, Lord Dunraven gave notice of motion for the rejection of the Home Rule Bill on the grounds that it does not meet with the support of the great majority of the Irish, and affords no prospect of a permanent settlement.—Reuter Service. j TOLL OF SOLDIERS'. j Received Nov. 17, 5.5 p.m. ! i London, Nov. 36. In the House of Commons, Mr. Winston Churchill rsaid that since June 30, in Ireland, tmfrty soldiers had been killed and ninety wounded. Tt was believed the attackers suffered heavy casualties.
