(From Our Own Correspondent) The county elections created a little interest. The polling by Mr. Donald in the Ilaliotu riding- was a surprise to Ojtunake poojile. His namo on the candidates' list was ;i new one to us. Tl:e fart that he polled exceptionally well where he is best known is a favorable recommendation of his ability.
The Town Hoard are "numbering thfi peopie" in the town district, for the purpose of increasing (lie Board's powers under the Town Districts Act. The recent ri-moval of two families to tlie district reduced the population by 20.
The advertising of tenders for the erection 01' a cottago hospital in Opun.ike is very satisfactory. With the administrative ability of 11-e Xmv Plymouth Hospital Board and local interest to assist, the people of this district should be able to make it a model cottage hospital.
An exiill motor service, inaugurated In a local resident, has commenced on (he Opunake- Eltliam route. Tho new service will probably stimulate the proprietor of tho mall service to greater efforts, and it will mean beneficial results to the settlers and travelling public.
The new councillors elected lo the Esmont Council are: Messrs. J. s. Tosland, C. A. Trotter and It. Ferguson. The former is a returned soldier, and practically a native of Pihama, and is the Egmont Patriotic Socictrs delegate on the Tarannki .W.R.A., a -lirecwr of the Pihama. dairy factoYy, and member of the school committee. 110 is a very lire and energetic member of the Pih.ima community. Mr. Trotter is well-known as chairman of the Opunake Town lioaril Mr. Ferguson, a faraier on the Waiteaka Road, was a member of the Parihaka l(i,ad Board whin it was merged with the county. He lias been a contractor in various parts of the Dominion, so should have a practical knowledge on road and bridge work. Prices for young stock at the local saleyards have been first-class, and outside buyers have been operating incessantly. Pigs are not coming forward in numbers that are warranted by the prices and demand.
