COST OF COAL PRODUCTION. Bj Teicrrapli.—Press Assn.—Copyright. Sydney, Sept. 28. As the result of a discussion between Mr. Hughes and the coal owners, the Commonwealth Government is appointing' a Royal Commission to inquire into the increase in tlie cost of production, with a view to making an award; The owners meanwhile have been given permission to increase the export price of coal by .4s, to operate from yesterday. The local price is 17s 9d per ton,- plus added cost of production, which will be retrospective.—Aus.-N.Z. Cable Assn. DEARER TOBACCO AND KEROSENE. ( Melbourne, Sept. 28. The Fair Profits Commission granted an application of the tobacco companies to increase the prices of tobacco and cigarettes by a halfpenny per ounce, also to impose an increase of Is ;fld per case in the price of kerosene.—Aus.N.Z.
