THE POLISH WAR.
POLES CAPTURE GRODNO. ! ACTIVITY BEFORE WINTER. By Telegraph.—Press Assn.—Copyright. London, Sept. 27. It is reported from Warsaw that the Poles have captured Grodno, taking many prisoners and much war material. Grodno was understood to be under the protection of the League of Nations. "It is pointed out that only another month's campaigning will be possible before winter stops operations. The new move is said to be preparatory to an offensive against the Red army, which is concentrating in the Minsk : l/ida sector, as, unless its destruction is achieved before winter, this force will be used to crush General Wrangel, leaving the Bolsheviks free to attempt to overrun Poland in the spring. A Polish communique claims that they made a counter-attack against the 80lBheviks and Lithuanians on September 24 and 25, and occupied Kopoiova and Sojoy, capturing 1000 prisoners, three batteries and 26 machine guns, and also broke an attack by the enemy on Buzogaolico, causing them, to retreat towards the north-east. —Aus.-N.Z.
