(From Our Own Correspondent.) Sept. 28. Dr. Gunn, the medical officer connected with the Education Department,', has been in Waitara during the past few • days. j During the last few weeks, tlio : electrical power station has had to fall j back on a traction engine for driving purposes, pending the' arrival of some j new parts to the machinery. j Mr. .T. T.awrence Smaill (third son of ' Mr. .T. Smaill, engineer, of Dunedin) at, present first engineer for Messrs. Borthwiek and Sons' Belfast works, has bt«n ■ annotated supervising engineer to tliej Gisborne and East Coast Sheep Farmers' Meat and Mercantile Companj-. Mr. Smaill, before going to Belfast, was second engineer .of the Waitara works. Arrangements are proceeding for the j Soldiers' and Civilians' Club Ball,, which-: takes place on Thursday next. Mr. Newton King's wool shed is starting to wear r new appearance, and the committee are leaving no stone unturned to make those who' will Attend comfortable, Mr. Banard, of the Hamilton post tffiee, has been appointed postmaster at Waitara in place of Mr. J. T. Boland, who will be leaving shortly to take up relieving duties.
