Proceedings commenced with the Railway Hack Welter, there being sixteen runners. Gay Lady was slow to commence. Smoke led Farce, Amber Tips, All Cerise, and Voluble along the back, but. crossing the top Amber Tips and Voluble held command. Voluble was first into the straight from: Malingerer and Big Pust, and went on to win comfort- . ably by over a length from the hard-ridden Malingerer. Alt Cerise came with a late run Into-third place. Farce was fourth, Big Push fifth, and Sea Sprite sixth. Much Interest was taken in the parade of (he youngsters saddled up for the Debutante Two-year-old Stakes. Thfsplan refused to face the tapes, and was left. Tolerance made play from Kick-off, Rational, and Amorel, but Rational took charge after a furlong had been traversed, and led into the straight from Amorel and Tolerance. Rational maintained the advantage, and won comfortably by a couple of lengths from his stable-mate Amorel, with Kick-off a length away third. Then came Tolerance, Humbold, and Piffle, with Thespian a long way back last. The winner is a nicely built gelding by Absurd out of Cowl. ! Amythas, Trespass, and Rose Queen were , the starters in the first New Zealand Eclipse t Stakes. Amythas, on the rails, and Rose Queen on the outside were just in front of I Trespass after a furlong going out of the ' straight, \he first pair still being together at the six furlongs, three lengths ahead of Trespass. Amythas had forged half a length ahead of Rose Queen at the half mile, Trespass being two and a half lengths further back. Crossing the top, Rose Queen began to drop back beaten, and Trespass commenced to make up his leeway. Amythas led Trespass by a couple of lengths turning for home, and once in the straight O'Shea began to gain on Amythas, and amid great excitement, the pair were on terms at the half distance. It was a great finish. All lined up for the Gonville Hack Hurdles. Hyginaa maintained (he ie?d and timed for home from White Rangar, Tolthogue, and Endure, winning by a good two lengths from Wtito Ranger, who beat Master Boris for second money by a neck. Then came Fceman and Camp Guard. Kurnalpi and Zola were practically pulled up in the ,last round, and Tirau lost his jockey half-way through the rac^. All saddled up for the Higgle Handicap, which provided a fine race. Going along the back, Volo had run up to Insurrection and the pair were just in front of SLmou and Bonnetter. Vo'o was fast into the straight, leading Simon, Depredation, Bonnetter, and Oratress. An eleven horse" field contested the Mouioa Hack. When they were let go Haicyon M.'d Piro Piro set out as pacemakers to Ben Boit and Admyra, with Farce last. At the six furlongs post alcmg the back the field was bunching, the order being Rebuff, Piro Piro, Farce, Warraweo, and Army Service Farce was first into the straight, leading Rebuff, Army Service, Crucelle, Warrawee, and Maniahera. Once heads were fairly turned for ( home Crucelle shot to the front, Maniahera

coming through anil going in pursuit. In a punishing finish, Crucelle prevailed by a neck, Warrawee being third nearly three lougths awy. Ben Bolt and Army Service were close up, and Farce was next. Crucelle was the third consecutive double winner. The nine acceptors lined up in tte Owen Handicap. Inah was first away, and Hymestra, put behind the field by the star'er, was the last to leave the mark, and showed the way down the back to Kinsem, Wake and CSrmel Arch. There was a decldod change in positions when the straight was reached, i Listowel and Egmont rark being in tho van from Carinel Arch and Hymestra.
