He stated he would work to the utmost to promote inter-State and inter-Dominion ties, and his keynote would be partnership. Sydney, Sept. 25. Mr. Garden, secretary of the Labor Council, lias been chosen as delegate to the International Federation of Trade Unions Congress in London on November 22, at which the economic conditions of Europe will be discussed.—Aus.-N.Z. Cable Assn. Melbourne, Sept. 24. In the. House of Representatives, Victorian Nationalists endeavored to strike the Federal capital item of £l's<j,ooo from the estimates. A non-party division resulted in favor of the item by 27 votes to 14. A ballot throughout the Commonwealth, of federated marine stewards and pantrymen, resulted in favor of a strike for a 48-hour week, the voting being 792 to 157. Tlie union executive will decide on the future course of action. In the Assembly, Mr. Lang (Treasurer) introduced a Bill providing for increased taxation on racecourse admission tickets as follows: Flat, 2d; leger, lOd; saddling paddock, 3s; males, £1 7s; females' season tickets, 20 per cent, of the cost of the ticket. The Bill was read a third time. Sydney, Sept. 24. At the Board of Trade Cost of Living inquiry, the statistical officer of the hoard gave evidence that the living wage in 1919-1920 was 5s 9d less effective in purchasing power than the living wage of 1907. The Auditor-General's report shows that the public debt now amounts to £156,902,917. In the case against the Country Press Company, Graham brothers secured a verdict for £912. A stay of proceedings was granted.
