HIGH COMMISSIONER'S REPORT. The Department of Agriculture has received the following cablegram, dated September 19, from the High Commissioner for New Zealand, London:— Meat.—Small supply of English meat; prices firmer, but trade dull. Average price Is:— Beef, Is sd; mutton, Is ll%d; lamb, 2s o%d. Imported meat, no change in'price; demand is moderate. ' Butter.—English, average price is £22; small supply of Irish; demand is limited owing to advance In price. Present quotations are £22 5s to £22 15s. It is understood that the Pood Minister has arranged for a renewal of Danish contract at £ls per cwt., quotation c.i.f. Purchase made with the co-oper-ation of Belgian and German Governments in order to' keep prices to consumer as low as possible. Cheese.—Trade very quiet. English moving at £8 lCs to £0 0b; Canadian, demand Is moderate; white, £8 to £8 2s; colored, £8 2s to £8 6s; spot, quotations, c.i.f., irregular, £8 3s to £8 4s. Hemp.—Manila market quiet and steady, price firm, "J" grade, October-December shipment sold £OB 10s, at which figure shipment June, July or August to October, November, or December now quoted at. ADDINGTON STOCK MARKET. Christchureh, Sep*. 22.,-., There were small yardlngs at the Adjij,-. ton weekly stock market to-day, with the ,'ic-' .ception of store cattle, which showed .in :,|ierease over the number of the prevftlis week. The short market ensured good prices, which generally were ahead of last week's rates. Store Sheep—The yarding was small and the biddink keen. Sound and falling rniouth ewes all counted to 18s Id, Inferior, six and eight-tooth ewes in lamb to 25s 7d, mixed sex hoggets 24s Id to 27s sd, good haifbred wether hoggets, to 32s 3d, ewe hoggets to 32s Gd, two-tooth wethers to 32s .lid, four and sixtooth wethers to 38s sd. Fat Sheep.—The yarding consisted of about seven races, the quality being about on a, par with recent sales. The sale comner.ced briskly, but eased towards the finish. Prices throughout showed an Increase of from is 6d to 2s 6d per head. Extra prime wethers 54s to 74s Cd, prime wethers 43s 6d to 53s Cd, medium wethers 39s to 435, light and unfinished wethers 31s 4d to 38s Od, exttt prime ewes to 00s, prime ewes 40s to 455, Medium ewes 31s to 38s, light and Inferior ewes 27s to 30s, hoggets 28s to 30s. Fat Cattle.—2lß head were penned, compared with 300 last week. Owing to the short supply bidding was keen at the start at an advance on late rates. Extra prime oteers £34 to £3O, prime .steers £27 to £32 15s, medium steers £l9 to £26 10s, light and unfinished £l3 to £l7 10s, extra prime heifen to £24 10s, prime heifers £l7 to £lil 15s, ordinary heifers £l3 to £l6 10s, light and unfinished heifers £lO to £l2 10s, prime cows £l7 10s to £22, ordinary cows £l3 5s to £l7, light and Inferior cows £lO to £l3 ss. Vealers.—Runners to £lO ss, good vea'.ers to £8 ss, medium calves to £4 10s, inferior calves to £2 7s 6d. Dairy Cattle.—A plain lot was sent forward and tho demand was not keen. Good third calvers to £lB 10s, springing heifers to £l4 10s, inferior heifers £0 to £7 10s, Store Cattle.—A big yarding, compriW alonost entirely of indifferently bred and poorlyconditioned sorts. Bidding was fairly good. Dry cows £3 to £5.105, yearling to 18-moiith steers £3 3s Cd to £4 18s Cd, two-year-old steers to £7 10s, 18-months' heifers to £5. three and four-year-old steers to £9 13s Cd, bulls from £5 3s 6d to £lO 10s. Fat Pigs.—Choppers £8 to £l4, baconers £7 to £8 10s, heavy baconers £0 to £9 10s (average price per lb Is 2d to Is 3d), extra heavy baconers to £lO 10s, porkers £-1 10s to £3 ss, heavy porkers £5 15s to £6 10s (average price per lb Is Cd to Is 7d). Store Pigs.—'Weaners £1 10s to ss, small stores £2 18s to £2 16s, medium stcres £3 to £4 9s, large stores to £5 10s.

BURNSIDE STOCK SALE. RECORD PRICES FOR PIGS. There were fair entries of fat stock at Burnsfde to-day. Fat cattle and fat sheep met with a good sale at practically last week's rates. P ! £r, again realised extreme prices, competition being particularly keen. The prices obtained for pigs were again a record for Burnside sales. Prime heavy-weight baconers realised up to £ls 3s each. There was a medium yarding of 17C head of fat c.'.ttle. The quality of the whole was only fair. The demand was good, but prices were a shade easier than those of last week. Quotations: Extra prime bullocks, up to £3l 2s Gd; prime, £27 to £29; medium, £22 10s to £24; inferior, £ls 10s to £l7; extra priiino heifers ,up to £22 2s Cd; prime, £l7 IDs to £l9; medium cows and heifers, £l3 io £l4 10s; inferior, £ll 10s to £l2 10s. There was a good yarding of store cattle, the quality being mixed. Competition was fairly brisk, and late rates were fully -maintained. There was a large yarding of sheep of fair quality, a total of 2760 head being offered for sale. Competition was good and prices for all classes improved on last week's rates by about Is to 2s per head. Extra prime heavyweight wethers realised up to 555; prime 48s to 52s Cd; medium 40s to 46s Cd; light and in,finished sorts, from 34s upwards. Prime ewes realised from 42s to 48s Dd; medium, 30s to 41s; light and aged, from 25s upwards. A large yarding of pigs, met with keen competition. Prices were in advance of the extreme high rates lately ruling. Best baconers realised from Is 3%d to Is 5d per lb and best porkers from Is 4Wd to Is Cd per lb. N.Z. LOAN AND MERCANTILE REPORT. The N.Z. Loan and Mercantile Agency Co., Ltd., Stratford, report as follows: We held our fortnightly sale at Stratford on the 14th inst. Tile entry of dairy stock was a good one, and well forward heifers or cows met with a ready sale. Yearling and twoyear empty heifers were also keenly competed for. The following are the prices realised :—Small hoggets, 225; 4 and 6-tooth wethers, 30s Cd; yearling heifers, £5, £5 is, £5 15s; Jersey cross, £G 7s; springing heifers, £l4 10s to £10; good sorts, £9 to £l2 as for Inferior; heifers and calves, £10; dairy cows, £8 to £l7; young bulls, £4 10s to £5 ss; 1%-ton waggon, £Ol 10s. Our next Stratford sale will be held on the 28th Inst. Our first Matau sale of the season w.-'.a

held on Friday last, 17th inst. We Had a good yarding, and a large attendance of buyers. We offered several good dairy lielfera, which met with keen competition, and report clearance of all stock offered. Prices:— Mixed sex lioggets 275; yearling steers to £3 17s Cd; heifers, to £5 18s; empty heifers, £8 17s 6(1, £7, £7 10s; fat heifers, £ll 2s 6d; dairy heifers, well forward, £ls, £lO to £lB ss; backward sorts, £9 10s, £l2, to £l4 10s.
