Smith, the member for Taranaki, said he wished to thank the Prime Minister for the kindly interest he had taken in the oil industry of Taranaki, and the practical assistance recently given to that industry, which, he believed, would result in the development of one particular need to an extent that would prove that they had payable oil in Taranaki. In the past, no doubt, money had been squandered on wild-cat schemes, but he believed the right people had now got hold of the' industry, and he thought they might se# some success in connection with their operations.
