RIFLE SHOOTING.
NEW PLYMOUTH CLUB. The annual meeting of the New Plymouth Rifle Club was held last evening. Iti the absence of the president (Mr. A. K. Standish) owing to Illness, the deputy-president (Mr. J. Ransom) occupied the chair. There was a fair attendance of members. ANNUAL REPORT. The following report on tho year's operations was presented: —The year that has iust closed has seen some revival of interest in rifle shooting possibly because of the oreinauguration- of the Taranaki Itlfle Association. More Interest and better attendances at competitions nad matches have been shown (han. for some years past. The club lias not gained any new members; we cannot honestly encourage intending members to join because rifles are for the present unprocurable. As It is intended to arm the Territorial forces with new rifles, those 011 issue to them will, in the not far distant future, be set ffee, and, if provided with new barrels, may hj? available for purchase by members of the: rifle clubs. The junior honorary membership has met wl.tb a considerable degree of success; the system is being adopted by other clubs, which speaks for its value. "All the members of tile club who took part in the great war and who have survived its dangers have returned, and the Roll of Honor authorised at the last annual meeting can now be compiled, but there are sixteen who will never return." The report touched on, : the condition of the rifle range and stated that the work being done was totally inadequate to meet the needs. Thanks were expressed to LSeut.-Col. Weston, Mr. .Tarvls, the president, and secretary for donations to tile funds; to the ladies tor assistance rendered, and to tlje Press. The report was adopted as above. ELECTION OF OFFICERS. Patron, Mr. C. H. WestQn; vice-patron, Mr. Sandford; president, Mr. J. Ransom; vicepresidents, Messrs. Hartnell, MacDiarmid, and Ryder, and Lt. Andrew, V.C.; committee, Messrs. Moore, Oliver, Reed, MeGahcy, Hlggs, Christiansen, and Stephenson; hon. secretary, Mr. E. Armitage; auditor, Mr. W. P. Okey. GENERAL. The question of the adoption of tho automata system was referred to the committee, with power to act.. In accordance with notice or motion, the subscription was increased to 10s. The opening date was fixed for October 7, and the Inglewood and Waltara Clubs will be invited to attend. Votes of thanks were accorded the outgoing president and officers, with special mention of the secretary.
