APPEAL COURT. By Telegraph.—Press Association. . Wellington, Last Night. The Appeal Court heard the motion of Franklin John Smith; who was convicted and sentenced to seven years' imprisonment ior rape at Auckland, for a new trial qn the ground that the verdict was given against; the weight of evidence. The Court reserved judgment. The Court is hearing the case, McDonald v. Valentine and others. This is an appeal from a decision of Mr. Justice Sim in regard to the will of Archibald McDonald, of Lower Hutt. The case is proceeding. PRINTERS' WAQES. Wellington, Last Night. A meeting of the Master Printers' Association this afternoon considered the new award filed but not circulated, and acting under advice, decided to pay the cost of living bonus of lis for adult male workers, and 3s for female workers from the date of the award, September 13th. The wages payable for compositors, bookbinders, lithographers, and machinists are therefore at least £4 10s in the cities, and a lesser rate in some' outside centres, and for linotype and other machine operators, at least £4 lfla in the cities, and 4s less outside the cities. \ It was decided to advise employers not to raise the question as to a refund of the excess already paid, as the delay in the decision was due to the Court and not to the workers.
