RACING IN AUSTRALIA. WOLAROI BREAKS DOWN., By Telegraph.—Press Assn.—Copyright. Received Sept. 21, 5.5 p.m. ■ Sydney, Sept. 21. Wolarol has been scratched for all Randwick and Victorian engagements, having broken down in tte Spring Stakes on Saturday, owing to trouble with a bone in the fetlock. Possibly the horse's racing career :s finished.—Aus.-N.Z. Cable Assn. T.J.G. DISTRICT COMMITTEE. A meeting of the T.J.C. District Committee was held last evening. Present: Messrs. L. A. Nolan (in the chair), 0. W. Sole, S. Pitt, J. Gray, B. H. Chaney, J. McLeod, and 0. for absence were received from Messrs. C. H. Washer and A. Good. Three owner trainer's licenses were granted. The programme of the Taranaki Jockey Club for tie season 1920-21, was approved. TURF TOPICS. . (By "Moturoa.") Tlyre will be racing at Wanganui, Ashburton and Avondale this week. The Ashburton meeting takes place on Thursday and Friday, Wanganui on Thursday and Saturday, and Avondale on Saturday and the following Wednesday. Cloudy weather with occasional drizzles has been experienced in Wanganui this week, but the tracks are in good order, and somo fine gallops have been recorded. On Monday morning there was a good deal of jumping, Zola, Mill o' Cowrie, Gladful, Khartoum, White Ranger, and Applaud all fencing well. W. Rayner, W. Hawthorne, Geo. Price, T. Long and other trainers have b!|j teams in work there, and all appear to havo their horses in good order. Hymestra, Trespass, and Tenterfleld are going as well as any of Hawthorne's teaun, the former sprinting in great style. Weldone, who had beon shaping most attractively Is not too sound, but a short respite from strong work may see his lameness .disappear. Listowel goes so well on the tracks that Is it hard to account for his continued failure with the colors up. Evidently he doesn't suit P. Rayner, or vice versa. Panacte, by Ptnmure—l'arera, a member of Geo. Price's team, is a bold galloper like his sire, and should come to hand quickly. He is engaged in the Debutante Slakes, a race which tte Highden stable won with Saima last year. Chimera Is getting plenty of strong work but she may be all the better for a race or (WO. Jimmy PeacheJjr is keeping Warrawee up to the collar, and the big felolw does everything asked of him most generously. Warrawee should be worth backing in whatever races he starts. Income and Catalinl have not broken any Big Bens since their arrival at Wanganui, and the fowner goes best. The Wanganui Returned Soldiers' Association had a rare dust-up the other evening. The executive took it upon themselves to Inform the Wanganui Jockey Club that the Association did not desire free race tickets for the forthcoming meeting. This raised a howl of protest, and at a special meeting a resolution was passed expressing "no confidence" in tte present executive, and calling upon them to resign. So now the soldiers will get their "complimentarles." Chatting with several business men In Wanganui yesterday, the writer gleaned that tho general run of business people view with mixed feelings the intended removal of racing' from Wanganui to Westmere. 'Rara meetings! benefit businesses considerably, particularly' the pubs, fish shops, tobacconists, mercers, drapers, chemists, etc., but what benefit a' race meeting at Westmere will do the town of Wanganui is practically nil. On tho other hand tte aftermath of racei, the backwash of ill considered ;ash, will be there just the same. If the outside sporting public do not spend the'ir money in Wanganui during race week, Wanganui sports will still squander their cash out ut Westmere. The secretary of the Jockeys' Association supplies the following statistics, which show that conditions arc bettor for horsemen now than at! any previous time. The statistics for the season 1019-20 are gliven below,, with the figures for the season 1918-19 in parenthesis: Races run 1658 (1374); gentlemen riders, 19 (18); jockeys and apprentices, 1639 (1356); total starters, 13,806 (11.304); total jockeys who rode, 481 (400); average in each race, 8.42 (8.33); jockeys' riding fees, £47,632 (£35,892); average earnings per jockey, £99 Os 6d (£B9 14s 7d). Woori, by October—Miss Phillina, who is at Avondale, is a recent arrival from Sydney. Trentham Rose, who showed great promise over hurdles at the recent meeting at Awapunl, will race at the sniall down south. She should soon pick up a twelve furlong stick event. Bleriot has foaled a colt to Sunny Late, and will /risit the Imported torse Poiydamon this season. Humbug is reported to have done solid work in company with Sasanof and Gas Bag before leaving Hastings, and will start a good favi|ite In the Wimganui Guineas.
