WAITARA.
(From Our Own Correspondent.) Sept. 20. One of the most complete and conveni-ently-built houses, in concrete, lias just been finished by Mr. E. Jones, in Cameron Street, for Mr. W. Baird. Mr. and Mrs. S. Knuckey, after spending some years in retirement at Waitara, are leaving to take up their residence at Fitzroy, where they have purchased an up-to-date bungalow. Mr. F. Proctor, who went to Sydney recently, has joined the staff of Messrs. E. Lee and Co., printers, of that city. A very pretty wedding took place at St. John's Church on Wednesday last, the Rev. Mr. Gavin officiating, when Miss May, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. H. Spurdle, was united to Mr. Alfred Harris, eldest son of Mr. and Mrs. W. Harris, of Wellington. The bride, who was given away by her father, wore a charming dress of crepe-de-chine and georgette, embroidered with beads. She wore.the usual veil and orange blossoms, and carried a bouquet of white stock and asparagus. The bride was attended by her sister, Connie, who wore a dress of pink silk and a leghorn hat, relieved with pink trimmings. She also carried a bouquet of pink stock. The bridegroom was attended by Mr. Les. Sampson. After the ceremony a reception was held at the residence of the bride's parents, and the usual toasts were given. The happy pair left by motor car en route for their, future home. Mr. Tt Boland, onr popular postmaster, has received marching orders after a 15 months' stay here. He leaves to take up the position of relieving postmaster for the North Island. Those who have had dealings with Mr. Boland have found him courteous and obliging. His future home will probably be Napier. A very good meeting was Jield on Wednesday evening last, to consider the advisability of running a sports programme on Labor Day in aid of the Soldiers' and Civilians' Club. Mr. V. Garth presided. The following committee was appointed to make arrangements:— Messrs. A. Hawkins, T. Skelton, T. Taylor, T. Fowler, Nieholls, W. Proctor, W. Glasgow, H. Brabant, S. Tate, P. Allen, Blair. R. Pennington, and R. Tate. Mr. J. R. Bennett was appointed secretary, and Mr. Ling treasurer. Mesdames Young and Bennett were asked to form a ladies' committee. The drawing up of a suitable, programme was left in the hands of Messrs. R. Tate, T. Fowler, and T. Skelton. The Waitara Municipal Band, under the baton of Mr. C. Sampson, rendered a good programme of music on Sunday afternoon in Mrs. M. Jones' beautiful grounds. There was a fair attendance, considering that the weather was far from good.
