ASTRONOMICAL SOCIETY.
NEW PLYMOUTH SCHEME. On May Cth of this year, nine gentlemen of New Plymouth met to discuss the possibilities of forming a society in New Plymouth with a view to increasing interest in astronomy. The result of that meeting was that in July an inaugural gathering of interested ladies and gentlemen was held, and the New Plymouth Astronomical Society fairly launched. To-day, over seventy names appear upon the Society's roil of membership, and definite steps are being taken to establish a local observatory. The Society's Executive Council is now calling ii general meeting of members, and of all who desire to become members, at which a list of will be submitted, and a report sriven r.f progress made. This general meeting will be held in the Soldiers' Club on Monday, November 3rd, at S p.m.
