Received Oct. 28,10.30 p.m. London, Oct. 26, Lloyd's annual review of shipping states that" at the end of June there was the largest tonnage building ever recorded, amounting to 4,760,623 tons, of ,which 2,033,319 ton 3 was building in the United Kingdom. .Lloyd's classified 1151 vessels, totalling 3,801,221 tons, during 1918-19, of which the United States constructed 470 vessels, totalling 1,883,759 tons; the United Kingdom 579 vessels, totalling 1,285,036 tons; Japan 70 vessels, totalling 355,304 tons; and Canada 87 vessels, totalling 199,941 tons Only 20 ferro-concrete vessels were classified.
Lloyd's have appointed a research committee to test the suggestion that fluid cargo makes a ship sluggish, and also to test a ship in which plates are electrically welded instead of rivetted.— Aus.-N.Z. Cable Assn.
