NEW PATEA BOAT.
AUCKLAND STEAMER WAITANGI. The Tat'.'.a Farmers' Co-operative Freezing Co., mvuers of the coastal steamer W.iverley, have purchased, subject to inspection in dock at Auckland tomorrow, the Kauri Timber Co.'s tug Waitmigi, for the purpose of engaging iier to assist the Waverloy in the \Vcl-linglon-J.'atca service. The Waitangi, which has been engaged for some time p:i"t in towing logs from around the northern coast- to Auckland, is to be refitted at Wellington where she will he insulated also.
The Waitangi is a steel twin-screw vessel of 171 "tons gross, and 122 tons under deck, built in ISSi) by the Dvan{;eiriouth Dockyard Co, Grangemouth, ail 1 \va> enginetl bv Unison and Corbctt, Glasgow. The vessel's principal dimensions ave:—Length, .120ftj beam, '2i)ft,; dentil, 7ft 9in.
The Waitavgi was originaily named the Banks Peninsula, and on arrival in New Zealand was engaged in the Banks Peninsula service. Subsequently she was purchased by T. A Reynolds and Co, Tasmania, and transferred to the MeQuarrie harbor trade. During her operations in Tasmania the vessel -was for a while under command of Captain IV. J. Rogers, of the Blackball Coal Co.'s Wellington staff. Later the Bunks Peninsula was purchased bv the Northern Steamship Company and traded out of Auckland. Her next owners were the Kauri Timber Co. Captain Risk, of the Wavcrlev, who is at present in Auckland, will be given command of the Waitangi, and is to bring her to Wellington. The vessel has passenger accommodation, which will be adapted for cargo-carrying
