It is estimated by one of the most experienced medical officers in Victoria that quite 50 per cent, of the men who have volunteered but failed to secure enrolment have been rejected on account of flat feet (says the Melbourne Age). The experience of all the examining doctors at recruiting depots in this and oth»r States also goes to show that fiat foot is by far the most common defect encountered among recruits offering for War service. The authorities have been compelled to exercise caution before enrolling flat-footed recruits, as the defect in some cases knocks, a man up quicker than many more serious ailments.
