S.S. ROSCOMMON SUNK.
NO LIVES LOST. "I am sorry to say that a wire has come through that another of our vessels has been sunk," stated the Right Hon. W. F. Massey in the House of Representatives on Friday. The ship, Jie added, was the Roscommon, one of the Union Steamship Company's scls running under the Federal flag. A member: "Was there any loss of life?" The Prime Minister: "No, I understand not." (Hear, hear.) The steamer Roscommon was formerly named the Oswestry Grange, and was the vessel upon which the Right Hon. R. J. Seddon died, on Sunday, June 10th, 190G, soon after leaving Sydney for Auckland. The vessel returned to the New South Wales capital, and then brought the body of the Prime Minister direct to Wellington. The Roscommon was owned by the Federal-Houlder-Shiro Line, but was afterwards acquired by the New Zealand Shipping Company. She was a steel twin-screw four masted steamer of 73(iS tons gross, and 4742 tons net, classed 100 A at Lloyds". and built in 1902 by Workman, Clark and Co., Ltd., at Belfast. Her principal dimensions were: Length, 450 ft sin; beam, 55ft 2in; depth, 30ft Gin. The vessel was fitted with refrigerating machinery and big space for frozen cargo.
