KXfiIXEER'.S REPORT, Baths.—The receipts for the baths for .Inly were £2 Ss. and the total for the months of Hay, June and July £8 ,'js. Real's fencing, etc.—Completed, and fencing at Paynter's Lane for Mr! Rodgcrs has been put in hand. <Spilh\a\ at Mangamahoe.—Completed Fortunately it was serviceable during the last heavy fresh, and in my opinion another wash-out occurring. The electric light department have removed find stored the cable, and the three men who were employed on the spillway are now upon the minor jobs authorised out there. ■General.—l have arranged to have the work done at the fiirls' High School, Mangorei road, and have also interviewed the grounds committee of the Kitzroy Bowling Club, and come to a satisfactory agreement re grading an entrance to their ground. The question of reinstating the footpath ill Devon Street West adjacent to the site of the recent fire is a master that will require consideration, ns it will entail the erection of a retaining wall, etc. BUILDINf! AXD SAXITARY IX*. SPEC'TOR. The following permits were granted:— Ten building permits, value £.1031: four drainage permits, total fees £33 lis (id. The past month has been a busy ono owing to the change in the sanitary wvstem. The work was takeu over from the contractor on the Ist arid carried on with the use of his plant. During the last week the whole system was changed. The public has iesponded well to the request to altei their promises to suit the new system. 'I find, however, that a few people have not done anything so far. In many of these esses the places are dirty and dilapidated, and I shall have no difficulty in obtaining a conviction for creating a nuisance if alterations are nofc carried out at once. (!ood progress has boon made with the notices from the 'Health Department with regard to insanitary buildings. Four of them are being demolished and the. others aro being repaired. A contract has been let to carry out the work at the Terminus Hotel at a cost of £73. v '" : ABATTOIRS. " " ' 1 Slaughtered for local consumption, 183 cows, 3 bullocks, 8 calves, 027 sheep, 10 lambs. 80 pigs, and ISS tripes were cleaned. Compared with the corresponding month of last year they show an increase of 13 cattle, 0 lambs, 10 pigs and 20 tripes, and a decrease of four calves and 31 sheep. Three cattle and two pigs were condemned. Slaughtered for exports, <! cows, bulls and 7 sheep. X T o stock were killed for export last July. Condemned, two cows and one bull. Fees due for the month' amount to £110s; rents, £3 5s Gd; pigs from other works, £1 7s fid; total, £l2O 133; or an increase of £3 18s. j: RESERVES COMMITTEE. The Reserves Committee recommended:—That the Xcw Plymouth Soldiers' Club Committee be informed that the Council regrets that it has not at present the legal right to accede to their request for the right to let rooms in the old Town Ilall to the public for meetings, retaining the revenue, but that if legislation now before Parliament to grant the necessary power is granted, the matter will be considered, but that in the meantime the letting of the room be made at the borough office? as at present: that the borough engineer be instructed to submit an estimate of the cost of putting tile old Town Ilall in repair externally and of painting same. STOCK ROUTE COMMITTEE. The committee set up at last mcetin; to go into the question of a stock route through the town reported:—That the committee, having reconsidered the question of a suitable stock route and viewed Barriball street, ;-.rc still of the opinion that it will be necessary to lay out a new roadway from Waiwaka Terrace to the Waiwakaiho 'bridge. In the opinion of the committee, Barriball street, owing to the cattle having to be driven past the pubiii' school, would he unsuitable In addition to this, it is probable that delays would lie caused to the tramways by the eattle crossing the track at Paynter's Lane and again at Xormanby street. The following recommendation passed by the Committee on June 27 last is therefore submitted: "That the necessary steps be taken to acquire under the provisions of the Public, Works Act, for the purpose ot a roadway. the strip of land one chain in width from Waiwaka Terrace to the Uaiwa- ! kaiho bridge.'' That owing to the passing of the new by-laws the resolution fixing tile routes aiong which cattle may be driven, passed by the. Council on April S, 1012, is now inoperative. Cr. Smith moved that the matter of . the salary of the Borough Engineer be referred back to the Works Committee. Tie considered that it should be at least s tfiOfl, for a proved man could not be procured for .CSOO per annum.—Seconded . by Cr. Hill. Smith moved that the proposals for metalling Mangorei Road near Waig waka Terrace be referred back to the t Works Committee for fuller eonsidera(l lion. Crs. rriiliths alid Coliis supported, K and the motion was carried. ■J The Council dealt, at length with traniway matters, and then adjourned until < Wednesday evening.
