i | BRICKLAYER'S SUDDEN DEATH. . By Megraph.—-Press Association. •Pahiatna^August U. •Eobcrt Ade. bricklayer, an elderly man, who was believed ti> be a widower with a family residing in England, was found dead in bed at Baxter's boardingbouse yesterday afternoon. He had been unwell lately, and retired to his room after dinner to have a read. A book was found in his hand. A post-mortem examination is to be held. 'DEATH RATE AT TRENTHAM. ' Wellington, August 14. Surgeon-General 'Henderson, in a statement to the press concerning the deaths at Trentliam, says: The men who liave passed through the camp since the beginning of the year total roughly 20,000, and the number of deaths for the period is 31. Of these eerebro-spinal meningitis accounted for 0, other disease? 17, ami accidents 3. The deaths since August 1 number S, 5 from spinal meningitis and o from pneumonia. The death :'atc is 1.5 per thousand. There are no eases of meningitis in hospital now and no serious cases of pneumonia. COMMANDEERJXG OF CHEESE. Auckland, August 14. A further communication has been received by Mr. Masscy from the Imperial Board of Trade regarding the proposed requisition of tile whole of the next season's output of cheese. It includes a reply to the proposal by the cheese manufacturers that, the price should be fixed at B%d, per lb. Mr. Massey stated that lie was unable to make the contents of the telegram public, but would convene n further meeting at ai' early date of representatives of the producers, and would then acquaint them with the decision of the Board of Trade. •• THE MAXCAPEHI TRAGEDY. Te Kuiti, August 14. At the adjourned inquest on the body of Kenneth Livingstone, the vietim of the shooting tragedy at Maugapchi, Charles Frederick Macfarlane, who was in company with Livingstone, gave evidence similar to that previously published. The jury returned a verdict that deceased died as a result of a gunshot wound indicted bv Tui Kainuka, and I that be was wilfully murdered.
