A MOTOR FATALITY.

KAPONGA LADY KILLED. A sad motor accident occurred yesterday morning at a dangerous corner on the Junction Road, near Lower Mangorei, resulting in the death of a well-known Kaponga lady, Mrs. C. S. Walker. It appears that Mrs. Walker, who was driving, left early in the morning in a Ford ear for the purpose of attending a Wedding at Fitzroy. The other occupants of the ear were her husband, Mr. C. S. Walker, builder and "contractor, of Kaponga, who occupied the front seat, Mr. and Mrs. H. Allen and Miss Maud Allen occupying the back seat. All went well until reaching the dang&rous corner known as Marsh's, near Lower Mangorei, when Mrs. Walker, who was well accustomed to driving, but was not familiar with that particular road, apparently thinking that the road went straight on, there is a track leading, to a settlers house in the hill—approached the bend rather too fast, and turning too suddenly the car, the hood of which was up, turned over on its side. All the other occupants escaped with practically a shaking, but Mrs. Walker Was vinder the car with her head pinned to ,the ground by the step.

Assistance was quickly forthcoming, Mr. E. Smith being first on the ground and the lady was extricated.' Dr. Wade was soon out from New Plymouth, but fon Id only pronounce life extinct. Constable Wroblenski, who was informed of the accident, conveyed the body to the morgue ,and an inquest will probably be held to-day.

Mrs. Walker, who was aged 42, leaves no children. She was well known throughout South Taranaki. where she took a prominent part in horticultural circles.

The corner where the accident occurred lias long been recognised as dangerous. •Several accidents have at various times occurred there, but. this is the first to end fatally. The Taranaki Countv Council some time ago endeavored to secure some land, with the object of casing the corner, but were unable to complete negotiations, with the owner, as the price asked was considered too high. Our Kaponga correspondent writes: Quite a gloom was cast over the town this morning when the news of Mrs. C. Walker's death came through, and general sympathy is felt for Mr. Walker in his sad bereavement. Both Mr; and Mrs. Walker have been, for long, residents of Kaponga; they have been here almost since Kaponga existed. The deceased lady will be much missed, as she always took a keen interest in all social functions. In fact, at the time of her death she was chairwoman of the Ladies' Committee for the Carnival to be held to-day. She was also a very keen Church worker.
