STRATFORD NEWS.
(From Our Own Correspondent.) Hon. James Allen, Minister far Defence, has wired the secretary of the Patriotic Committee that he will be present on Soldiers' Day. He has also authorised a special parade of Senior Cadets throughout Taranaki, to take place at Stratford on that day. Some 000 cadets will be on parade. At the croquet green recently a match was played for a trophy presented by Mrs. Aldwcll, wife of Captain Aldwell, of the hospital ship Mamma. Mrs. W. J King proved the winner, and a gold brooch presented by Mr. R. Dingle was won by Mrs. T. Marshall. A lengthy discussion took place at the Stratford Borough Council meeting on Monday night on the subject of drainage and sanitation. A large deputation crowded the Council room, some being in favor of the proposed, charge of £1 for sewerage, and about, an equal number of ratepayers were against it. As the upshot of a rather lively meeting a motion, by Crs. Mills and Thompson that the special drainage rate be not collected, was carried.
