STRATFORD HOSPITAL BOARD.

(From Our Own Correspondent.)' Stratford, Tuesday. The monthly meeting of the Hospital Board was held to-day. Present: Messrs J. I). Sole, 1!. McK. Morison, K. Hine, E. Walter, J. Smith, and Christoilcl. The Town Clerk, Stratford, wrote that the inspection of the Borough was being proceeded with. Secretary Hawera Hospital Board informed the Board that owing to the extra amount of sickness in the district, the present health officer (Mr. Gray), has been taxed to the uttermost. His Board recognised that no proper inspection could go on without giving Mr,' Grey some temporary assistance, and his Board had decided to procure same. Whatever extra expense attached thereto would be shared by the different Boards under the existing arrangement. —Approved. The acting-secretary, Whangamomona Medical Association, wrote re the nursing scheme. A suitable residence was available, and they asked the Board to collect the subsidy on a quartei'ly payment of £22 10s, and pay the nurse. This would mean a salary of £IOB per'annum. It was decided to hold the matter over till next meeting, the Inspeoto.'-General in the meantime to be written to in the matter.

The matter of arranging for a nurse for tiie Association was left in the hands of a sub-committee with power to act. The Inspector-General of Hospitals notified that many sick and wounded soldiers who were instructed to proceed to the hospital for treatment failed to present themselves promptly, and he asked the Board to advise the Department the name of each soldier who had actually arrived at- the hospital for treatment.

The Inspector-General advised the Board that a subsidy of 24s in the £ would be paid towards a district nurse for Whangamomona. The Valuer-General reported that the rateable capital value of the various contributing districts were as follows: Stratford county, £2,051,330; Whangamomona, £488,111; Stratford borough, £400,840. The estimated population of the district wa s as follows: Stratford county 6115, Stratford oorough 3087, Whangamomona county 1900, Maori population 51, total 11,213. Nurse Finn was appointed assistant nurse.

Dr. Steven, medical superintendent, reported that 22 patients were admitted, 23 discharged, 15 remained, 11 operations were performed under anaesthetics There were no patients in the isolation ward. »

The Matron reported that the verandah in the main building required attention—Left to Visiting Committee, with power to act. Mr. A. Gray, Health Inspector, reported that three cases of infantile paralysis had been notified. One patient had died, and one was removed to the hospital, and the other was being nursed at home. In the two previous cases the premises were disinfected. Two premises were disinfected in the county. Accounts amounting to £167 5s Od were passed for payment.
