THE ODDFELLOWS' LEVY By Auodatioa. Wellington, t/ast ttiritt. At the Wellington District Confertne* of Oddfellow;, Manchester Unity;- the sub-committee reported on the questitn 01 a war levy. It was decided that a mlc be registered giving lodges power to make a levy of Is per member per quarter, the amount to be paid into tflß district fund and to be known as the Expeditionary Members' ContribMioiM Fund. From it lodges will draw the con« tributions of all members serving at the front, and at the close of the w«j> any residue will be distributed pro' rata amongst the lodges.

At a representative meeting of mem. bers of local bodies in the Wanganui dis« tnet, held to-night to discuss the Re. cruitmg Board's circular, on the motion of the Mayor it was unanimously rei solved: "That this meeting is of opinion that the exigencies of the military sift, ation demand greater efforts thai, car* be obtained by voluntary service. »nd that satisfactory results will not I>9 achieved under the present scheme, tfb* meeting urges the Government to foUow the lead of Great Britain and establish some form of compulsory service in tlia dominion."
A second motion, moved by Mr W A Veitcli. M.P., tliat wealth and w« profits should be taxed on'a graduated, scale to meet the cost of the war,' wia also unanimously carried, and it wai dsji cided, in the interim, to use all efforts td stimulate recruiting. ", ™i _________ • f i
