PERSONAL.

Mr. C. Ski.trop, formerly borough engineer at New Plymouth, Wft for Auckland by the Rarawa last night. Mr. W. Stanley, of Hillsborough, received a cable yesterday that his son, Private E. C. Stanley, had recovered and had returned to the front.

Yesterday, leave of absence for the re-maindcr-of the session was granted Hon. J. A. Millar, M.L.C., on account of illness.

■Mr. li. Crago Clarke, of New (Plymouth, is leaving shortly for Trentbam, where he has been appointed to a commission in the Trentham Rifle Regiment. Mr. Hugh Badly, of New Plymouth, yesterday received a cable from his sister in. London that his son, Private Ronald Eaily, js in the Putnam Hospital, London, wounded in the leg. Private Frank Win. Grimmer, who was reported yesterday as having died of wounds, was a son of Mr. R, A. Grimmer, of Waitara. Mr. D. Long, who at one time was, teller at the New Plymouth branch of the Bank of New Zealand, has been appointed secretary to the Auckland Farmers' Freezing Company, in succession to Mr. H. G. Stringer, who has been appointed manager for the Oroua Freezing Company. Mr. Long lias beon accountant for the company during the past 10 years.

Colonel Ellis received word yesterday morning that ids son, Sergeant Trevor Ellis, who went to Egypt with the third reinforcement* and to the front with t'he main body, had been wounded on August 8. No 'particulars of the injuries are given, nor is it stated where his son is. This is the second son of Colonel Ellis who has been wounded.

A cablegram was 'received by Mr. W. T. Jennings, M.'l'., from his son, Lieut. Harold Jennings, of the Imperial Koyal Field Artillery Force, stating that he was to leave England yesterday, and that his brother, Sergeant Jennings, of the New Zealand .Expeditionary Force, is in hospital at Malta, suffering from enteric. Mr." Jennings' other son, Edgar, was I'ectntly killed in the trenches -at Gallipoli by a bwnb thrown from one of the Turkish trenches.
