EMPIRE DAY.
MELBOURNE'S 'MAYOR ON "TOMMY ROT." By Cable—Press Association—Copyright Melbourne, May 13. The Labor Council at Port Melbourne discussed the proposal to co-operate in the Empire Day celebrations. Mr. Mayor (Mr. Page) declared that it was time all the "tommy rot" about Empire Day was wiped out. He intended to entertain the children on the anniversary day of the French Revolution, when the workers revolted against tyranny, and explain to the children what that day meant. The Council carried a resolution that the citizens would most like to celebrate the erection of a new school in a certain street, to replace the present pig-sty.
