THE COURSE OF BUSINESS. London, June. 23. In the House of Commons Mr. Asquith moved to make the .committee and report stages of the Irish, Welsh and Scottish Temperance Bills formal, arguing that the Bills must, under the Parliament Act, return unamended. ' He admitted that the practice of moving wrecking amendments was legitimate, and that the Liberals might be compelled to resort thereto when m Op position. A voice: That will be very soon. The Premier: I don't care whether it is sooner or later. If suggestions to improve the Bills were made before the third reading the Government would consider their nature and allot time for them. Mr. Chamberlain moved an amendment regretting the suppression of tin; right to amend Bills vitally affecting the constitution, and characterised the suppression of the committee and report stages as a gross infringement of the prerogatives of the House. CHAMBERLAIN'S AMENDMENT NEGATIVED. THE OPPOSITION'S ATTITUDE. Received 24, 11.30 p.m. London, June 24. Mr. Chamberlain's amendment' was neeatived by 202 to 204, and Mr. Asnnith's resolution for the closure carried. Mr. Churchill said that the Opposition's idea of liberty was power to impose a ncrmanent veto on Liberal measures. Regarding the so-called degradation, he asked whether the Liberals were not degraded in 1006 when all their Bills were thrown out. Mr. Smith, on behalf of the Opposition, announced that they wdiild take no part in the suggested stages of the-three Bills.
