Thirty cartridges, together with some oiled "tags and burning paper, were discovered at St. John's Church at Southend, and were extinguished without any damage being done. The east wing of the Catty Laboratory has been burnt down. A window-pane . was covered with soft soap. A dozen tins of petroleum were discovered in the building. Many valuable scientific drawings were destroyed. Several thousand people at Camborne mobbed the suffragettes who were marching from Land's End to London, pelting them with eggs. The suffragettes took refuge in an hotel, and escaped by the back door, in disguise. A large crowd at Blyth mobbed two suffragette speakers. The police rescued them with difficulty. Laura Lennox, who was sentenced on June 17 in connection with the suffragette conspiracy, has been released owing to her hunger-striking. The police are vainly searching for Lilian Lcnton, who escaped, it is be lieved, disguised as a van boy, though several detectives had been watching her house day and night. THE BUDA-PESTH CONFERENCE. Buda-Pcsth. June 22. Mrs. Dcspard, Mrs. Cobden and Mrs. Anderson were permitted to address the suffrage congress. They complained of the exclusion of then- party, and commented upon the u..rro\vness of the National Union. Mrs. Fawcett replied that the unio:i •was not responsible for their exclusion The president declined to permit the discussion of national conflicts. ITrr decision was cheered by the non-miiiiants who resented the militants' p;i:'o:-1ics as breaches of hospitality.
