A SUCCESSFUL EXPEDITION. By Cable—Press Association-Copyright. Received 23, 8.55 p.m. Sydney, June 23. Advices have been received by Dr. Wollaston that the'expedition in New Guinea sent out by the British Museum and other bodies succeeded in scaling the great snow-clad mountains of Dutch Portland .Island, which had been previously unsurmounted. The expedition climbed Mount Carstenz to a height of 13,000 feet, the highest point yet reached. It was pioneered by a friendly tribe of ■hitherto unknown little hillmen, and underwent many privations. The expedition .secured an excellent collection of ornithological and other specimens and scientific data.
