Mr. Robert Baker, a very old identity of New Plymouth, died yesterday afternoon, aged 92 years. A Sydney cablegram reports the death of the Hon. William McCourt, Speaker of the Legislative Council, New South Wales, since 1900. information lias been received . in Napier of the death at Melbourne last Thursday of Mr., Harry O'Neill, for some years a sheepfarmer at Wairoa. Dr. J. S. Purdy, formerly district Health Officer at Auckland, and more recently Chief Health Officer for Tasmania, has been appointed Medical Officer of Health to the metropolitan combined sanitary districts (24) in Sydney, and Chief Health Officer for Sydney. Mr. J. D. Sole, manager of Messrs. Arch. Clark's local >varehouso was taken suddenly ill early on i-'riday morning, and his condition becoming critical, he was removed to the hospital on Saturday morning. An operation was performed, and on latest advice ho wag progressing satisfactorily. There passed away at the residence of his son, at Peak'e's Road, St. Johns, Wanganui, an old Marton identity in the person of Mr. Peter Chapman ; Hill, on Sunday. Deceased was 87 years of age at the time of his demise. He had been in the colonies for the greater part of his life, and had farmed in the Taranaki and Marton districts. Referring to the report cabled recently that a joint annuity of £3OO had been settled on the widow of Dr. Wilson (of Antarctic fame) and his sister, Miss Souper Mr. Kinsey (of Christchureh) states that representations were made to Mr. Asquith that Miss Souper was never dependent on Dr. Wilson, and the whole annuity has now been settled on Mrs Wilson.
