CUristchurch, June 18. i The Conciliation Council met to-day' to deal with the dispute between the ; Canterbury Slaughtermen's Union and the Christchurch Meat Co. and the Canterbury frozen Meat and Dairy Produce Co. The Commissioner read a letter from the companies stating that they object to any agreement with the Canterbury Slaughtermen's Industrial Union of Workers, for the reason that the pre sent state of the industry does not wap rant an agreement being made with that Uni»n, as the majority of the slaughtermen employed in Canterbury are not members of the Union.
The Commissioner said that the employers' letter was practically an expression of a wish on their part to refer the matter to the Court of Arbitration, so the dispute would come before the Court of Arbitration at its present sittings in Ohristchurcli.
