COULDN'T BEAR THE SUSPENSE.
A PRISONER'S SUICIDE. i ~ ' Per Press Association. I ' Auckland, Thursdav. Austin Vincent Carroll, aged thirty years, who was remanded on a charge of indecent assault on a little girl, committed suicide in his cell at the Mount Eden Gaol last night. He was found dead at seven this morning. He had apparently used a -towel which he used as a belt. After .fastening one er.d round his neck and' the other round the bars of the window, he. jumped from hk» hammock and was strangled. He leaves i a wife and two children. • Jt , Auckland, Last Night. J At the inquest, intp the/death of iM prisoner, (Austin Vincent Carroll, who hanged himself in his cell, the evidence .showed that a letter fipm the 'to his wife was found under his pillow. I In the letter deceased. lamented the fact that he was afraid his wife and family would be short •of mosey; He - also said he could not bear the suspense of waiting in gaol for trial, although he was being treated with every consider, at ion by |he warders. _ Mr. Cutten, S.M.; returned the follow* ■ng verdict: "Deceased died last night,'l and he hanged himself."
