MINISTERIAL.
MR. MASSEY AND MR. ALLEN. PROPOSED LEGISLATION. Fcr Tress Association. Milton, Last Night. The Hon. \T. F. Massev, Prime Minister, and the Hon. Jas. Allen, Minister of Defence and Education, visited Milton to-day. In the evening both the Prime Minister and Mr. Allen spoke at a packed public meeting, and were later entertained at a banquet. Mr. Allen described the intended composition of the volunteer expeditionary force, and said that New Zealand should not alone make an annual monetary contribution to the Mother Country for defence, but should train its own personnel. Mr. Massey, who spoke for about half an hour, in the course of his remarks forecasted a good future with firm prices for products. He also briefly outlined some of the Bills intended to be placed before Parliament in the forthcoming session. The effect of some of these, he said, would be to extend the freehold to many thousands of settlers, bringing up to date the Shops and Offices Act, reform of the Upper House, and the removal of existing anomalies in the tariff, and also to tax motor-car owners for the upkeep of main roads.
